Computing

At Heritage Park School, we believe that it is our responsibility to prepare all students at school for an ever-changing digital world.  Through the ICT and Computing Curriculum, we encompass the knowledge, understanding and skills of the ICT arena. This is developed through problem-solving and computational thinking.

Students have the opportunity to develop a critical approach to both systems and software, through academic and vocational routes. 

The innovative curriculum at Heritage Park has been specifically designed to nurture a passion for technology that provide our students a creative, engaging curriculum which inspires our students for their future pathways.

Our IT and Computing Curriculum will provide students with the opportunity to:

  • Become safe users of technology and the internet.
  • Use the school IT systems effectively.
  • Become familiar with a range of software to support their progression.
  • Develop computational thinking skills to create and engage with script-based programming.
  • Be supported with their creativity and independence throughout their learning.

It is our aim within the teaching of Computing at Heritage to:

  • give students the opportunity to explore new technologies and concepts with space to become independent learners.
  • give students the opportunity to develop a critical approach to both systems and software through academic and vocational routes.
  • equip students to identify, how best to keep themselves safe-online.
  • to know the correct avenues to go down if online issues occur.
  • give students in KS4 the opportunity to gain multiple qualifications at various levels, providing key ICT skills to help them in their pathways to future education and careers.
  • our broad curriculum encompasses, Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy prepares students to use technology, positively, responsibly and safely.

Qualifications

KS4 offers students in Year 10 and 11, the opportunity to achieve more than one qualification in ICT. Students ability is considered for what qualification best suits their understanding of the subject.

Qualifications currently on offer include: - 

Level 1 qualification in Digital E-Safety

Level 2 in ICDL.
