PE

At Heritage Park, Physical Education (PE) serves as a crucial tool for fostering our students’ physiological, psychological and social development. Our PE curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced and adaptive, ensuring that all students develop the fundamental skills and competencies needed to excel in a wide range of physical activities.

Throughout their time at Heritage Park, students engage in games and drills that enhance their resilience and emotional regulation—essential transferable skills for success in society. Additionally, PE at Heritage Park instills values of fairness and respect, and equips students with the knowledge required to lead healthy lives.

Our inclusive and adaptive curriculum ensures that pupils of all abilities can achieve their potential. This approach nurtures a love for physical activity, boosting students’ confidence to participate in extracurricular activities. We support this by providing access to a wide range of sporting facilities within the community.

In Years 10 and 11, students are assessed against the OCR Entry Level PE criteria, ensuring they graduate with a qualification in physical education. This qualification, which emphasizes practical skills and allows for individual adaptations, is well-suited to our students. Additionally, we offer a GCSE short course in PE for those interested in pursuing a career in sports.

It is our aim within the teaching of PE at Heritage to:

  • ensure that all students develop the fundamental skills and competence to excel in a wide range of physical activities by providing a broad and bespoke curriculum.
  • support pupils to develop a range of cognitive skills such as decision making and analysis; social skills such as teamwork and communication and enrich their language through teaching of general and sport specific vocabulary.
  • instill the values of fairness and respect and ensure they possess a knowledge of what is required to lead healthy lives.
  • provide our students with a love of physical activity by promoting self-esteem, physical confidence and problem solving. This gives them the confidence to participate in extra-curricular activities, that we facilitate, through exposing our students to a wide range of sporting facilities outside of school.
  • throughout their time at Heritage Park, students will participate in games and drills which will improve their ability to emotionally regulate that will enable them to achieve in whichever path they choose to take.
